What We Can All Learn From Greenheart Games Example

By Clifford T. Hofferd

Recently Electronic Arts has come under fire for how it has handled the launch of the new SimCity PC game. Its mandate of requiring players to utilize a constant internet connection in order to run the game properly is part of EA’s digital rights management (or DRM) strategy. This has led to problems with corrupted save files, downloading problems, and games that lock up completely. While this is one example of anti-piracy that negatively affected the consumer there are many examples that harm the pirate. This would include Greenheart Games Game Dev Tycoon and how it choose to make a point with its anti-piracy efforts to those that Continue reading »

stock market

Economic conditions in recent decades have caused people who deal in the stock markets to examine different ways of remaining profitable. One practice that has emerged is called high-frequency trading, and although it has the potential to be very lucrative for those who try it, many people argue it results in an unfair playing field.

2013 British Columbia Provincial Election Debate Review

The long anticipated televised BC political debate this evening was at best, debatable  Will it seriously affect the outcome of the next election? No, probably not in any significant way. The NDP are poised for a win, and the debate helped to insure that. For the first time in over a decade, the debate did not go in the BC Liberal’s favour. The three contenders spent an hour and a half much like the old rooster and hound cartoons, where the rooster always stands three feet outside the length of the dog’s leash, then taunts the hound to hang himself.

The surprises tonight came from both the Green and Conservative candidates. They were both sharp as Continue reading »

Random Jokes, Questions & Quotes

The golf pro says, “Sure we do, and they are just $1.00 each.” The guy says he’ll take one, and gives the golf pro a dollar. The pro rings it up, opens the register, puts the dollar in the tray and with a big smile, hands the guy a quarter.

Celebrity

Among the many things that social media has brought to the public is the feeling of being close to celebrities. With Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, it has become quite a trend among famous people to update their fans with their lives, from working on their latest projects to documenting their salon visits. It’s easier to assume that it’s not the celebrities themselves that completely control their social media accounts. After all, it is probably still best to get an expert team to work on Continue reading »

Heavy Equipment Operator

Back when we were kids, most of us already had some kind of idea on what we wanted to do when we grow up. Even the members of my generation didn’t count on the Internet and the information age being so pervasive that most of us would end up working in it, so a lot of us had more “conventional” ideas of what our future careers would be. Truth be told, if it weren’t for the peer pressure, I was secretly harboring the idea of being a heavy equipment operator…

The fascination started innocently enough, since I have three Continue reading »
