Replacing The Negative With The Positive

Replacing The Negative With The Positive

“I alone cannot change the world but I can cast a stone across the water to create many ripples.” – Mother Teresa

It’s time to begin replacing the negative with the positive. When any group or individual is marginalized, it robs them of their dignity. It’s hard to fathom the amount of contempt, libel and slander that comes out of people’s mouths. All of us are in a position of influence, so we need to be careful of what we say and how we put it. Bad mouthing accomplishes nothing positive. When the tables get turned, how would the negative person feel when negativity comes back to haunt them, or bite them on the arse.

Having walls between people keeps them separated from each other in every sense of the word. It’s wiser to keep ones distance, as it gives a person a proper perspective on things.

There are those who feel shut out from mainstream society. Some do it by choice for a variety of reasons. Others feel they don’t belong, or feel wanted in most places. Under the circumstances, how is dignity and respect restored to those people in the latter group?

Get Busy Living

By choice, I live on the fringes of society. I’ve found what passes for normal these days is crazy. It’s like doublethink, or doublespeak – from Orwell’s book 1984 – has taken over peoples thinking abilities. Other than earning a paycheck I really don’t want to get involved in mainstream society, and its boxed in mentality on how things should be done. It’s not that I just sit around doing nothing, thinking life owes me a living. Far from it. I get out every day to try to make a good contribution to the world. I’m only one person living in a small city, but I think of the ripple effect of passing along positive feelings. I want to do things that bring out the best in me, therefore making the world a tad bit better to live in.

It’s the demands of the system that keeps most of us being little more than worker drones, wage slaves or half awake zombies. As the system stands, it’s like being trapped in a spiders web. The human race is capable of doing great things, such as what’s been done in the medical field and space exploration. But overall, with the way we usually do things, we could be facing having the plug pulled on us.

I keep three mottos. One is I ask if what I’m doing is part of the solution, or part of the problem. The second one is from Shawshank Redemption which is “get busy living, or get busy dying”. The third one is from an Al Seckel column from the Skeptical Inquirer from the late 1980’s. It goes “people need to learn how to think, as opposed to being told what to think”.

It’s time to get to the bottom of what is ailing our world. Ignoring it, or locking it in the closet doesn’t help matters. We have to start restoring hope in our own life before passing it along to others.

Ron Murdock has lived and worked in Western Canada all his life, and will continue to do so until his last day on Planet Earth. He has a good number of interests and hobbies which include dogs, freight trains, baseball and astronomy. Ron wants to know what the truth is, and nothing but the truth, and will do what research it takes to find it. The best compliment he can get is when a person says his writing, or what he says, gets them seeking.
