Flylashes Are Eyelashes Made Out Of Fly Legs

Flylashes Are Eyelashes Made Out Of Fly Legs

Flylashes

Flylashes might not be for the squirmish!

For many who are not blessed with lush lashes, they opt for false eyelashes. Just glue on some fake ones, and they enhance your eyes.

Flylashes Are The Latest Craze

Fake eyelashes come in many different lengths and colors. Some have glitter and even feathers.

Jessica Harrison, a British artist, took false eyelashes to a whole new level. She created a set of fake eyelashes made entirely out of fly’s legs! Flylashes were made using legs from around 5 flies found around different window sills.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, flylashes are not for sale. If they were, we would probably see them in the next Lady Gaga video.

The History Of Eyelashes

The history of eyelashes, while not extensively documented, dates back thousands of years and holds cultural and evolutionary significance.

Evolutionary Role of Eyelashes:

Eyelashes serve a protective function, helping to keep debris, dust and foreign particles from entering the eyes. They act as a natural barrier, much like whiskers in animals, helping to prevent potential eye irritation or damage.

Ancient Cultural Significance of Eyelashes:

Historically, there’s evidence that both men and women in ancient civilizations, such as Egypt, Greece and Rome, used various methods to enhance their eyelashes. For instance, in ancient Egypt, both men and women used kohl, a type of eyeliner, not only for cosmetic purposes but also for believed protective properties against the harsh desert sun and potential eye infections.

Victorian Era and Modern Influence of Eyelashes:

In the 19th century, the Victorian era saw a rise in fashion and beauty standards with a growing emphasis on women’s beauty rituals. The use of cosmetic products, including mascara and eyelash curlers, became more common to enhance the appearance of eyelashes.

Mascara and Cosmetics of Eyelashes:

The invention of modern mascara in the early 20th century significantly influenced the grooming and beauty industry. Mascara helped in coloring, lengthening and thickening eyelashes, enhancing their appearance. Today, mascara is a staple cosmetic product used by many to accentuate the eyes.

Fashion and Trends of Eyelashes:

Throughout history, eyelash trends have varied. From the natural, less adorned look to more dramatic and enhanced styles, there have been shifts in beauty standards, fashion and individual preferences regarding eyelash appearance.

In recent times, the beauty industry has seen a surge in eyelash enhancement techniques, including false eyelashes, eyelash extensions and serums designed to promote lash growth. These methods aim to create longer, fuller and more defined lashes.

The history of eyelashes demonstrates a blend of cultural practices, beauty ideals and the practical function of these small yet essential features of the eye. Eyelashes have evolved not only as a protective mechanism, but also as a canvas for cosmetic enhancement and self-expression in different cultures and periods throughout history.
