Sandi and Clara were best friends forever, until they had a fight. It was over some unimportant trivial point, The next day Clara tried to talk to Sandi, but was given the cold shoulder. She tried smiling at Sandi, who just tossed her hair angrily, ground her teeth and stomped away. While Clara said nice things about Sandi, Sandi spread bad rumours about Clara. Clara tried slipping notes to Sandi, but they were immediately thrown away. Two weeks later, Sandi noticed that Clara hadn’t been to school for a while. She missed Clara terribly, so using her absence as an excuse, she went to her house. Clara’s mother answered the door with tears in her eyes and invited her in. She asked Sandi to have a seat as she retrieved an envelope, which she held out to her. Inside was a letter written in Clara’s handwriting.
Her heart sinking, Sandi read:
Dear Sandi,
I tried to tell you how sorry I am, but you wouldn’t let me speak. I tried to tell you how much I love and admire you, but you wouldn’t listen. Sandi, you were the best friend anyone could ever have, and I’m so sorry for whatever I did to make you hate me. Please forgive me. I wanted to tell you that I’ve been very sick for a long time, and now I’m dying. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner. I have to stay in the hospital now, so I asked my Mom to give you this. I hope you’ll forgive me. I miss you so much, and hope I’ll see you soon.
Love – Clara
Sandi got up to race to the hospital, but was held back by Clara’s mother, who sobbed as she told Sandi that it was too late, Clara died the week before. Please, don’t let bad feelings keep you away from the people that you love.
