You Only Get One First Impression | Use It Wisely

It was a cold winter’s day. The parking lot to the office was filling up quickly. As a secretary got out of her car she noticed that a group of people who had come to be interviewed for a job, were whispering among themselves as they pointed and stared at a man sitting up against the wall outside the building.

He had on a black coat that was almost in shreds, and a hoodie topped his head, pulled down so you could not see his face. He wore shoes that looked 30 years old, too small for his feet, and with holes in them that his toes stuck out.

The secretary assumed that the man was homeless, and asleep, so she walked by and through the doors of the office. She took the names of those being interviewed, led them into a waiting room and waited for the employer.

It wasn’t long before someone brought up the man sitting outside. As people snickered and gossiped, the secretary realized that no one had even bothered to try and help him, including her. The first interview was to take place in five minutes.

The longer the applicants waited, the more insulting they became about the man, and unfortunate people in general. The room went dead quiet when the door finally opened, and in came the homeless man, walking toward the front of the room with his head down. The applicants gasped, whispered, and made faces. The homeless man made his way to the front where he pulled down his hoodie and took off his and coat.

He turned around and everyone’s heart sank. There stood the boss… he was the “homeless man”. No one said so much as a word. He looked each of them dead in the eye, then said, “Sadly, not one of you is the caliber of person that I am looking for. Thank you all for leaving.”

He then put the coat back on, and left the room.
