Will’s Thoughts about celebrity websites that suck.
I reckon, that in the light of the digital dawn, it has become incredibly easy for anyone to tell the world their story, and to interact globally with others using websites. So, I find it puzzling that celebrities, who make a living by getting into the spotlight, digitally give their fans the middle finger by having horrible websites. Perhaps they have made too much money, or, maybe feel they are simply too popular. Maybe celebrities look down their noses with utter disdain upon us gutter rats, who scrounge out our pathetic little lives in filth and despair. Whatever their excuse, it is no excuse. Celebrities deliberately chose to take the path that they did, and preyed upon the public for attention and accolades. Once they got what they wanted, they used the profits made from the public, to hire security to keep the public away. They came on strong, claiming to crave the public life, but as soon as they received it, they despised it.
The result has been that a celebrity now lives a self-centered existence that excludes the very people that made it possible.
It is my opinion that some celebrity behavior is ignorant, rude and insulting. And I’m not talking about average stars and athletes, I’m talking about mega stars who feel entitled to suck the world dry, while socially giving back next to nothing. So, who are some of the horse/donkey hybrids I’m talking about? Well, here’s a few who feel the public is entitled to nothing from them, because they could not even be bothered to have a website! I’ll start with one celebrity that really surprised me, Jay Leno. Sadly, Jay is joined by celebrity Steven Spielberg, Cameron Diaz, David Letterman, Brad Pitt, Jay-Z, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Michael Jordan, Jennifer Aniston, Simon Cowell and Jerry Seinfeld. That’s a lot of fingers stuck right into our face, and for no other reason than for loving them. Bad form. Bad form indeed. Then there are people who have celebrity sites that are, in a way, even more insulting, because they take you nowhere at a hundred miles an hour. Such as a site like celebrity Bruce Willis’s, that has nothing but blank pages. Or, like Will Smith’s, that features an image and a Facebook link, but nothing else. Wow, hopefully he didn’t strain himself.
On the other end of the spectrum, there are tons of other stars who do have awesome sites, usually all ran by publicity personnel, but some are actually watched, and even frequented by the stars themselves. This is the type of celebrity that I applaud, for to me, it should be an unwritten law that when one chooses a life in the public eye, that they are required to maintain contact, and to keep fans in touch. There is no need for a celebrity to respond to people directly, and it only takes a few seconds every other day, or so, to post a ‘hello’, or ‘today I’m doing…’ to keep fans feeling cared for, and a part of their lives. A classic example is celebrity Tyler Perry, who gets a three out three thumbs up from me. Not only is he an absolute genius, he is humble and loving, rare qualities in a star! He knows that even if he never responds to the fans that post on his site, just allowing people to talk to him makes them feel better. So, to you celebrity snobs who think you are better than us common folk, keep in mind that we made you, so we can also break you. And digitally, we can do so at an incredibly fast rate. Stop treating the people who love you like creeps, and get yourself an attitude of gratitude. Be a real celebrity and invest a little time and effort to say thank you to the people who made you who and what you are today.
Will’s thoughts prove that everybody has opinions, but he has way more than he should. From dogs that won’t stop barking, to the antics of his spouse, ‘Crazy Lady’, Will’s Thoughts will make you smile.
