The Annapurna Post, in Nepali, reported on August 23rd that a man had been bitten by a cobra snake while working in his rice paddy. What happened next caught everyone by surprise.
Now, most people would have panicked and feared for their lives when bitten by a known deadly poisonous snake, but not 55-year-old Mohamed Salmo Miya. After he was bitten by the Indian Spectacled cobra, the farmer chased it down, caught it, then bit the snake to death.
Miya was quoted as saying, “I could have killed it with a stick, but bit it with my teeth instead, because I was angry.”
Miya received treatment at a village health post, and was not in danger of dying from the snakebite.
The angry farmer lives in a village some 200 kilometers (125 miles) southeast of the Kathmandu, the capital of Nepali. Police officials said that Miya will not be charged with killing the snake, because cobras (called ‘goman’) aren’t endangered in the country. In short, the snake died of manbite.
