Book review by Ron Murdock
“Things may come to those who wait, but only the things that were left behind by those who hustle.” – Abraham Lincoln
A while back I read a book by Ernie Zelinski titled 101 Really Important Things, the subject matter was about the things we miss out on, yet these things are under our noses just about all the time. We ignore them due to any number of reasons. One is that we miss them by looking for more complex reasons, two is when we get so wrapped up in day to day life we overlook or don’t see the real honest things in life or some have just stopped caring.
Many of us at some point have asked what the meaning in life is. It’s highly unlikely that anyone will answer this question as this mystery runs quite deep. So instead of searching for an answer that may not show up, enjoy every day as best as you can as it may be your last one. Eventually you will have a last day on Earth so go out with a bang not a whimper.
I don’t and won’t deal with anyone’s luggage, issues or dramas as they’re quite capable of dealing with it themselves. Plus it’s so depressing to listen to and I don’t want any more weight on my shoulders than what is absolutely necessary. Then I don’t want to develop any mental health issues as a result.
Frustrating as it can be don’t worry if things don’t go your way. The Universe may be bringing something better your way. Make sure you take advantage of opportunities that come your way as the time will come when opportunities will cease as no one is guaranteed five more minute of life. Too many people stay stuck in their familiar way of doing things even though all it offers is boredom and drudgery. Avoid the herd mentality and think things through for yourself. When opportunity knocks on the door don’t be fooled by the overalls it wears and how much it looks like work. You have to put in the effort to make sure your dreams come true. Overnight success just doesn’t happen nor is your ship coming in and the cavalry isn’t coming to the rescue. Patience is the key here. You will be hit sideways every so often so be prepared. Expect the unexpected so don’t set your plans too rigid.
“What is, is, and what ought to be, is damn lies.” – Lenny Bruce
Statistics aren’t reliable as all of them are either pulled out of a hat or made up on the spot. Don’t wait until you’re on your deathbed before looking back on your life and realizing you didn’t pursue any of your dreams. Try to accomplish some of them before you die.
To mess around with reality is to have it come back and bite you on the rear end. To worry in excess is about as useful as a windshield wiper on a submarine. What gets people behind the eight ball is being a people pleaser on a long term basis. It is a recipe for failure. One needs to concentrate on their own hopes and plans for their life.
Considering the state of the world is in I consider my so called problems pretty small potatoes. Life or the Universe doesn’t owe me a living so it is up to me to put forth the effort to accomplish anything I want in my life. I do have to watch that my impatience doesn’t get me into any more hot water than it already has. I can say a lot for reasoning things through but there are times when intuition has the right of way.
It’s a bad idea to give so much of yourself that you don’t have anything left over for yourself. No matter how bleak your past was you are capable of having a promising future no matter what age you are. With this in mind which one should you focus on? Unanswered prayers can be more of a blessing than an answered one. Instead of reading or watching things that rather stupid, raise the bar somewhat involving yourself more intelligent things than you.
When someone tells me the good life is just around the corner I ask just how many corners do I have to go around to find it? One of the most absurd quotes I’ve heard is “fake it until you make it”‘ It doesn’t work most of the time and probably you’ll wind up being a bad actor. Then pretending to be something you’re not is delusional.
Positive living by itself won’t bring what you want in life. It takes action too. Don’t fret about not getting the big things in life, give thanks for the little things that come your way, just as long as you don’t aim low and settle for less.
A lot of things in our world is neutral; it’s how we use that makes it good or evil. Being a miser or spend thrift with cash or material goods accomplishes nothing. So a middle of the road approach is a better way to go. Don’t get fooled or sucked in by those with the herd mentality to be something or someone you’re not. Just be yourself as truly and fully as you are.
